Matthew Mailloux

Matthew J. Mailloux served as Assistant United States Attorney at the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey from 2021 until he joined Post Polak in 2025. Previously, he was an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, including time as Chief of Bankruptcy Litigation, where he represented more than 35 federal entities in the successful handling of more than 400 complex healthcare, fraud, regulatory, administrative, affirmative, defensive, tort, environmental, bankruptcy, contract, and real estate matters.

Experience

Matthew has resolved matters at all stages of dispute, through direct negotiations, motion practice, mediations and arbitrations, trials, and at the United States Court of Appeals for the Second and Third Circuits after oral arguments.

Matthew led multiple healthcare fraud investigations with teams of federal and state law enforcement partners in claims with civil and criminal liability involving allegations of billions of dollars in potential claims. He led numerous government investigations, coordinating with Federal law enforcement agencies, inspectors general offices and other Department of Justice components, as well as the New York State Attorney General’s Office.

At the District of New Jersey, he has served as the authorized local designee for SEC cases, providing guidance to SEC counsel on financial fraud cases.

He has routinely handled complex tort maters, including high-stakes personal injury, medical malpractice, and wrongful death matters. He has settled numerous multi-million-dollar cases, after conducting all aspects of trial preparation.

Matthew joined the Department of Justice through the Attorney General’s Honors Program, in the Aviation, Space & Admiralty Litigation Section. There, he worked on aviation and admiralty matters, handling affirmative and defensive cases on behalf of many federal agencies, including the FAA and Navy, working through complex issues including product liability, mass tort, maritime, environmental, air carrier, air traffic control, and other aviation-related issues. Matthew also served as a Criminal Special Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Columbia.

Before going to law school, Matthew worked for one of the nation’s largest general contractors, as an engineer and in project management.
